Yasmin Sison
Unmade
9 – 27 May 2006
Mag:net Gallery Paseo
Opening at Mag:net Gallery Paseo is Yasmin Sison’s recent works in oil. Entitled Unmade, the exhibit is Sison’s continuing incursion into the enigmatic interiority of her mutable realities mediated through found pages of fashion magazines. The exhibit title, however hints at something that is unresolved, a bed bearing witness to a restless dreaming. Similarly, the way Yasmin covers up supposed personages in her paintings - densely, obsessively, messily starkly contrasting the careful modeling of the scene behind of dainty floral wall patterns, plush velvet cushions and ominous blue skies – play upon also the act of concealing the identity of these figures as though abstracting further their very purpose in the picture, to be a blank slate where anyone’s version of a story can be projected upon. Their very anonymity becomes its very potentiality in bearing multiple specificities unleashed by its bearer/witness. The scenes themselves are transfixed in a moment and yet defiant of the idea of permanence. For the moment one asks, one wonders who or what is to transpire in these images, they reel in anew, activated by the imagination.
The show opens on May 9 at 6 PM and will be on view until May 27 of 2006.
Mag:net Gallery Paseo is at the ground floor of Paseo Center , Paseo de Roxas corner Sedeno St. Makati City.
