Authentic Hacienda
Mag:net, Gallery ABS
2-28 March 2006

Opening at Mag:net Gallery ABS on March 2, 2006 is Wire Tuazon’s Authentic Hacienda. Comprising of objects and paintings done in enamel and silver leaf, the exhibit delves on Tuazon’s persistent themes of the paradox of control, popular memory, time loss and immortality represented in forms burdened by historicity and iconography concomitant to his own voyage to personal discovery. These are reflected in most of his installations. The paintings, often accompanied by text seemingly incongruent to the image, illustrate further this paradox, and specifically for this show the artificial reinforcement on the diverse meanings and aspects of life and death. Moreover, it is an ironic criticism of his generation’s fanaticism on the universality of meaning, commenting on the commoditization and changing sense of humanity. In certain instances, his art practice serves as a counterpoint in developing new visual continuities explored in different media at different times.

Authentic Hacienda will be on view until March 28, 2006.

Mag:net Gallery ABS is at the Loop, ELJ Center, ABS-CBN Compound, Quezon City. For inquiries please call 4100995 (Shey) or email magnetplus@gmail.com
